Winter Beanie for Ponytail

Winter Beanie for Ponytail

Are you ready for the cold weather yet?

The days are shorter and colder and I LOVE IT! Autumn and winter are my favorite seasons of the year!

There's nothing better than getting dressed warm, thick sweater, scarf and hat. I personally really love hats, but something I find irritating is that my hair is really not nice under a hat. Either I can't put my ponytail anywhere or my hair is very flattened.

Is it the same for you? Then here is the solution for you!

The perfect beanie for ponytails and long hair!

These sort of beanies / hats have been around since ages. But I haven't seen them in the stores - like ever!

So how difficult could it be to make one yourself? Not difficult at all!

Pattern: Ponytail Beanie

Material List

  • 2 Strands yarn weight 4
  • Hooksize 6.0
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Hair elastic

Abbreviations (US)

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • st = stitch

Use hooksize 6.0 and two strands of your yarn.

You're working from the top down and then around the head. When measuring, the length of your chain will be the length from the beanie from the top down to your forehead. Make sure to add additional length so you can flip over the edge.

The measurements can be adjusted to YOUR headsize.

Start with attaching the two strands yarn to your elastic, use a slip knot.

  • Chain 35 + one turning chain (measure to adjust to your ideal length from top to forehead + edge)
  • Turn work, hdc in each stitch, sc through the elastic, chain 1
  • Turn work, skip the sc, hdc in backloop only for all stitches. Count your stitches to make sure you're not loosing any! Chain 1
  • Turn work, hdc in backloop only, sc through the elastic, chain 1
  • Repeat these steps until you can wrap the piece around your head.

Last row: Start from elastic again, like you did before. When you're done with that row, chain 1 again, turn work. Now we crochet both sides together. Fold your rectangle in half and sl st through the front loop of your hdc and the loop of your starting chain. Do this until you get to the elastic. Attach the last row with a sl st to the elastic and finish off. Sew the tail.

Your ponytail beanie is done!
